Several SEC players were among a host of nominees announced on Tuesday for the Burlsworth Trophy, given annually to an outstanding walk-on in college football.
They are:
Arkansas LB Grant Morgan
Auburn LB Barton Lester
Florida LS Marco Ortiz
Georgia QB Stetson Bennett
Kentucky PK Matthew Ruffolo
Mississippi LB Mark Robinson
Mississippi State WR Christian Ford
Missouri WR Barrett Banister
Tennessee OL Dayne Davis
Texas A&M DS Connor Choate
Marty Burlsworth, President and CEO of the Burlsworth Trophy said this about the nominees.
“What a privilege it is to recognize these young men each year, those that chose to take on the challenge of beginning their college career as a walk-on,” he said. “We are excited to celebrate the achievements of these 88 players nominated for the 2021 Burlsworth Trophy. These extraordinary young men have put in the work and have earned this honor.”
The trophy is named after Burlsworth’s brother Brandon, who was a walk-on at Arkansas and became an All-American, then was later drafted by the NFL but died tragically in a car accident 11 days later.
The award will be given on Dec. 6th.
