SEC lands 4 assistant coaches among Broyles Award semifinalists

The Broyles Award, an annual honor given to the top assistant coach in college football, has narrowed its list of more than 50 coaches to 15 semifinalists. And 4 are coaching in the SEC this season.
The SEC assistants are a who’s who of coaches who are having bang-up seasons. They are Alex Golesh of Tennessee, Matt House of LSU, Pete Lembo of South Carolina and Todd Monken of Georgia. Michigan’s Josh Gattis won last year.
Golesh, the offensive coordinator and tight ends coach, is leading the top unit in the country in total offense at 540 yards per game.

For House, a defensive coordinator, some of the highlights are LSU held Ole Miss scoreless for the final 44 minutes in a 45-20 victory; held Alabama without a TD in the first half for first time all year and limited Crimson Tide to just 9 points through three quarters (fewest all season) in the win; and held Arkansas to its fewest points (10), rushing yards (121) and total yards (237) all season.
For Lembo, a special teams coordinator, South Carolina has had a 100-yard kickoff return against Texas A&M, multiple blocked punts against South Carolina State and Kentucky, and a successful fake punt against Georgia.
For Monken, an offensive coordinator, Georgia’s offense is ranked No. 7 in the country in total offense, and No. 11 in scoring offense.

Finalists for this year’s award Broyles Award will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 29, and the winner will be revealed on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock, Arkansas.
