Alabama is again the No. 1 team in the country, so fittingly, they also have the top SEC play from the first five weeks of the season.
SEC Network ranked the Top 10 plays from Weeks 1 through 5 (Florida in Week 0 was probably included too), and Crimson Tide running back Najee Harris’ 42-yard touchdown reception against South Carolina came in at No. 1. On the play, Harris layout a Gamecocks defender with a nasty stiff arm, hurdled another one and then broke a third tackle attempt on his way to the end zone.
Based on the background commentating in the video below, it was the clear choice for the top spot on the list.
LSU wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase was the only player to make the list twice. His leaping 28-yard reception against Vanderbilt fell on the list at No.9 and then his 41-yard jumping catch over a defender versus Texas was No. 5.
Most of the plays that made the list were tremendous displays of athletic ability, but one play on the list was more significant because of its timing. That was Auburn quarterback Bo Nix’s game-winning 26-yard touchdown pass to Seth Williams with about 10 seconds left to play against Oregon in Week 1.
Granted, Williams’ catch was pretty tremendous, but that play is on the list because it lifted Auburn over Oregon. That play helped set up an undefeated matchup between Auburn and Florida this Saturday.
