The SEC’s bowl-season dominance during the BCS era is well-documented, but a closer look at the games that matter — subjectively beginning Jan. 1 — reveals an even clearer edge in matchups often involving nationally-ranked teams.
Since 2007, the SEC is 32-15 in January bowl games with a commanding 23-10 mark against ranked opponents. A total of 26 wins over Power 5 teams during that span is 15 more victories than the next closest conference (Big Ten).
Over that stretch, the SEC has won six national championships.
