Last chance: SEC recruiting official visit weekend preview

Published:
It’s the final weekend, which means everything that appears here could change by midnight. Still the end is near, which also means some teams are already focused on upcoming junior days while others are still trying to fill holes or replace recent decommitments.
Let’s take a look as we close in on Feb. 3 signing day.
Alabama
After hosting nearly every five-star prospect in the nation last week it’s a light hosting week for Nick Saban and his staff. Alabama took a mid-week visitor, four-star defensive tackle Michail Carter, and is still hoping for a last-minute visit from nation’s No. 1 player, Rashan Gary, who visiting Clemson for at least part of the weekend.
Arkansas
Still feeling the need for defensive backs, Arkansas has targeted JUCO prospect Joseph Putu and he was on campus in Fayetteville on Friday morning. The Razorbacks are also hosting four-star running back Kyle Porter. They are battling TCU and Texas for Porter.
Auburn
The Tigers finally get to host five-star linebacker Ben Davis this weekend. Davis was supposed to originally visit last weekend but switched things up to join the rest of the five-star nation at Alabama. Things have been trending down for Auburn and Davis over the past few weeks so expect several Auburn commits to come on unofficial visits to try to help with Davis. The nation’s top inside linebacker also had an in-home visit with Notre Dame that reportedly put the Irish back in play.

Florida
The Gators are going all in on four-star wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland this weekend. Cleveland, a Houston commit, is a good candidate to flip somewhere on signing day with Florida, Arkansas and TCU all seemingly in the mix.

The Gators aren’t done there as they make a last-effort pitch to five-star defensive back Kristian Fulton as well. LSU is trending way up for Fulton so the Gators might have to play a little catch up here, but Fulton has kept everything relative close to the vest.
Georgia
Michail Carter goes from his mid-way visit at Alabama to Georgia where he’ll join four-star offensive linemen E.J. Price and Jauan Williams. Price is a major target for Georgia, who in a recruiting battle with Aubun among others.

Kentucky
With the class nearly complete Kentucky hasn’t released a confirmed list of official visitors. That doesn’t mean they won’t have a couple, but nothing has been etched in stone as of Friday morning. Kentucky has been working on former Michigan commit Rashad Weaver, a three-star defensive lineman from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. But Weaver is expected to visit Pitt and Penn State this weekend.
LSU
Four-star offensive lineman Scott Lashley will be visiting Baton Rouge this week. The Tigers are competing with Alabama and Mississippi State for Lashley’s commitment.

Mississippi State
The Bulldogs staff probably hosted their most important visitor already when four-star wide receiver A.J. Brown took a mid-week official. Brown is arguably the Bulldogs’ top priority as they are in an in-state battle with Ole Miss.
Missouri
With the dismissal of quarterback Maty Mauk and the announced transfer of Eddie Printz, it’s likely Missouri may have a late-targeted quarterback in for an official but as of Friday morning nothing had been confirmed. Three-star running back Arkeem Byrd is expected to be on campus at Missouri this weekend and the Tigers will be on a commitment watch.

The Tigers staff has also pushed for former USC defensive line commit
Keyshon Camp and are battling with Pitt to get a last-minute official
visit this weekend.
Ole Miss
The Rebels’ coaching staff is bringing in 12 official visitors this weekend, including four-star safety Deontay Anderson and defensive end Jeffrey Simmons.

Other targets include four-star wide receiver Marquez Callaway, who committed to Tennessee last week and four-star defensive end Terrell Hall. Other commits, like five-star offensive lineman Greg Little, are also expected to be on campus to welcome to large group of official visitors.
South Carolina
Four-star defensive lineman Karamo Dioubate arrived in Columbia on Thursday and will be taking his official visit until Saturday. The Gamecocks are also trying to get in the race for four-star defensive tackle Stephon Taylor and he will be on campus this weekend. Three-star wide receiver Korey Banks has been committed to North Carolina but will be at South Carolina this weekend.

Tennessee
The Volunteer coaching staff is looking to close the show with 12 official visitors and three top targets. The main targets are five-star defensive lineman Derrick Brown, four-star defensive back Nigel Warrior and four-star offensive lineman Landon Dickerson. Warrior is considered a strong lean while a commitment from Brown on signing day could put Tennessee in range for a top 10 class.

Texas A&M
The Aggies have a small group, but it could be a fruitful weekend. Four-star wide receiver Quartney Davis is high on the Aggies radar and Kevin Sumlin and staff will try to flip three-star athlete Clifford Chattman from his FSU pledge just a week after he made it. The Aggies are also trying to make up group with Texas and Tennessee for former Oklahoma defensive line commit Chris Daniels but it will be hard after Daniels was dabbing with Charlie Strong. A dab is like a silent commit these days right?

Vanderbilt
The Commodores are expecting at least two official visitors this weekend. Two-star athlete Kenny Herbert, a linebacker out of New Orleans, received an offer this week and will take his visit over the weekend. And three-star two-way lineman from San Diego was also offered this week and will take a visit.
