South Carolina defensive line coach Travian Robertson continues to recover after being hospitalized following a serious car accident in late August.

Robertson, 36, was involved in a serious head-on collision on Aug. 22 in Richland County. The former Gamecocks captain was rushed to Prisma Health Richland Hospital and spent time in the trauma ICU before being released late last week. Even though he can’t be on the field right now, Robertson hasn’t been sitting out completely.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer said Tuesday that Robertson is already jumping back into things virtually, hopping on Zoom calls with the defensive staff and helping with the game prep for Saturday’s SEC opener against Vanderbilt.

“He was able to Zoom in and be a part of the defensive staff meetings yesterday, when our staff was putting together the initial game plan,” Beamer said of Robertson, per Jordan Kaye of TheState.com. “He’s involved from that standpoint, and getting closer to when he can physically return.”

In Robertson’s absence, assistant DL coach Jordan Dove and assistant strength coach Jamil Walker have stepped in to handle day-to-day duties. Dove has been up in the booth on game days, while Walker manages the substitutions on the sideline, per Kaye’s report.

South Carolina and Vanderbilt will kick off at 7:45 p.m. ET on Saturday night.
