Social media reaction pours in following news of sanctions at LSU, Odell Beckham Jr. being banned

LSU was caught cheating, and the SEC and college football world has quickly weighed in.
At issue is a report from Sports Illustrated, which states that LSU is “docking itself eight football scholarships over a two-year period and reducing recruiting visits, evaluations and communication.” Those measures come after a roughly two-year investigation uncovered “booster payments to the father of a football player,” per SI’s sources.
LSU is banning former Tigers standout Odell Beckham Jr. for two years from team facilities after the Cleveland Browns wide receiver handed out $2,000 in $100 bills to players after the national championship game in New Orleans.
Many fans were aware that an investigation around the basketball program is still ongoing.
Here’s a sampling of immediate reaction to the news:
The Odell stuff gets the headline, I get it. This is the actual bad thing. pic.twitter.com/WsDxVZ5RQc

Call me crazy, but paying a player’s family six figures in funds embezzled from a Catholic hospital suggests that LSU will be facing stiffer penalties than what they chose to self-impose

Yeah- and LSU has bigger issues with the men’s basketball program, so these proactive “self-imposed” penalties for the football program probably weren’t a tough call to make

We’ll see if these self-imposed penalties are enough to satisfy the NCAA. #LSU https://t.co/Dkre8DpRej

LSU giving themselves a 2-year penalty, losing 8 scholarships, over their former player giving 2K in cash to players.
make it make sense.

No it’s a slap on the wrist because it’s LSU. The head of the ncaa is the former LSU AD, so of course they get away with murder

Imma big LSU fan and OBJ’s biggest critique but I don’t like or agree with this at all. https://t.co/6fc6KaqpuE

So LSU was in line to potentially have top 3 recruiting classes back to back years. Thats probably gone now. Great.

We pay our players in private, so we are gonna ban you for paying them in public. PR stunt that looks terrible on LSU https://t.co/StmYydE6D7

• LSU booster stole $500,000+ from a hospital to pay LSU families
• OBJ gave out $2,000 on national TV to LSU players; LSU lied saying it was fake money
• Ed Orgeron ignored rape allegations made against Derrius GuiceCan’t imagine the punishment if this were Ohio State 🤔 https://t.co/hRoubWOScG

Colleges can make all the money they want off of you but as soon as you get a little bit of cash from an old LSU Star, it’s the end of the world 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
