The Alabama Crimson Tide turned in a less-than-spectacular 1st quarter against the Oklahoma Sooners on Friday in the first round of the College Football Playoff, notching just 12 yards on just 8 plays on offense and allowing 10 points to the 9th-seeded Sooners.

Social media roasted UA for an awful start that only got worse with Oklahoma making it 17-0 early in the 2nd quarter. Here’s a small sampling of what was being said on X (formerly Twitter):

Oklahoma chased around Tide quarterback Ty Simpson throughout the quarter, including hauling him down for an 8-yard sack on Alabama’s 2nd possession. Simpson finished the quarter 2-of-4 for 12 yards in the air.

Alabama netted zero yards on 4 carries against the Sooners through the first 15 minutes, with Jam Miller earning 2 carries for 7 yards and Daniel Hill only gaining 1 yard on 1 carry. Josh Cuevas caught 1 pass for 8 yards and Isaiah Horton had 1 reception for 4 yards.

Oklahoma, meanwhile, scored twice in the first quarter – as quarterback John Mateer found the end zone on an 8-yard run and Tate Sandell was true on a 51-yard field goal.

Alabama’s special teams also didn’t do it any favors, as punter Blake Doud’s 3 punts only averaged 35 yards and a kickoff by returner Lotzier Brooks only got out to the Tide 13-yard line.
