After a 2-0 start, No. 11 South Carolina hosts Vanderbilt at Williams-Brice Stadium Friday night.
On Tuesday afternoon, South Carolina officially announced that it will be a sold-out crowd for the Gamecocks’ SEC opener:
South Carolina is still finding its rhythm offensively. The Gamecocks rank 118th in FBS with 290.5 yards per game, and third-down conversions have been a struggle at just 29.2 percent. In Week 2, South Carolina leaned heavily on special teams and defense to secure a 38-10 win over South Carolina State. Vicari Swain returned two punts for touchdowns, tying the school’s single-season record, while Jaron Willis added a fumble return score.
LaNorris Sellers has gotten into a better rhythm since Week 1, throwing for 337 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions this season. Vanderbilt enters the matchup with momentum after a 44-20 road win over Virginia Tech. QB Diego Pavia has 468 passing yards and five touchdowns on the year, with Sedrick Alexander adding 156 rushing yards and two TDs.
Both teams feature red-zone efficiency, scoring on every trip inside the 20, which should make for a fast-paced affair. South Carolina enters with momentum and home-field advantage. The crowd energy should assist, as well.
Saturday night in Columbia should be SEC football at its finest. Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
