South Carolina fans call for Shane Beamer’s firing after blowing 27-point lead to Texas A&M

South Carolina found itself on the wrong end of one of the biggest come-from-behind wins in college football history.
The Gamecocks did just about everything right in the first half against Texas A&M. They took a 30-3 lead to the locker room thanks in part to three takeaways and several drops by the Aggies’ wide receiver corps, outgaining the Aggies 312-132. Marcel Reed’s Heisman Trophy hopes were considered gone after throwing two interceptions and going just 6-of-19 for 141 yards.
Then the second half happened. The Aggies were essentially unstoppable, putting up 28 unanswered points and totaling 371 yards while holding the Gamecocks to just 71. Reed was 16-of-20 for 298 yards and four touchdowns over the final two quarters, with 240 of those yards and three of those touchdowns in the 3rd quarter alone.
LaNorris Sellers was a non-factor in the second half, throwing for just 63 yards. Neither was the ground game. The Gamecocks managed just 13 yards rushing on 15 carries across the final 30 minutes after going for 108 yards in the first half.
This was a disaster for South Carolina, who is guaranteed a losing record with two games to play. Shane Beamer led his team to a 9-4 record in 2024 en route to a Top 15 preseason ranking in 2025. Instead, the program has taken a major step back in his fifth season.
Here’s reaction from social media as Beamer’s job is being called for:
