Since taking over the starting quarterback job earlier this season, South Carolina QB Jake Bentley has had a fantastic season.

In Thursday’s bowl game against USF, he continued his strong play, setting a Gamecock bowl-game record in the process.

By throwing for 390 yards against the Bulls, the true freshman shattered the school record for passing yards in a bowl, which was previously held by Blake Mitchell, who threw for 323 yards in the 2006 Liberty Bowl:

The Gamecocks came from 18 points down to tie the game late in the fourth quarter against the Bulls, so Bentley will likely add to his record in overtime.

More importantly, though, South Carolina has a chance to earn a victory in the Birmingham Bowl.
