Texas and Oklahoma’s decisions to move to the SEC continue to have ripple effects throughout college football.

A day after it was reported that Conference USA programs Florida Atlantic, Charlotte, North Texas, UTSA, Rice, and UAB had applied for membership in the American Athletic Conference, it appears that 2 additional CUSA programs are on the move.

Trey Schapp of KABZ 103.7 The Buzz tweeted Wednesday that Southern Mississippi and Marshall would be leaving Conference USA for the Sun Belt Conference.

If all of the defections go as planned, the future of Conference USA would be in serious jeopardy, as 8 of its current 14 members would be headed for other leagues.

Could CUSA add other programs to remain viable?

It’s a possibility, as conference realignment is certain to remain fluid in the weeks and months ahead.
