Team success more important to Nick Chubb than Heisman consideration

Nick Chubb is not mentioned too often among the top contenders for the Heisman Trophy across the country, or even in the SEC.
Running backs like Saquon Barkley, Bryce Love and Derrius Guice have garnered more publicity this season than Chubb despite the Georgia running back leading the SEC with 765 rushing yards and nine touchdowns. Throw in some quarterbacks, like Baker Mayfield and Mason Rudolph, and Chubb is further down the list.
But publicity, at least in terms of the Heisman Trophy, is not important to Chubb, whose team is 8-0 entering Saturday’s home game against South Carolina.
“I don’t want it,” Chubb told reporters Wednesday. “They can keep it.”
Perhaps the Heisman isn’t as big of a deal because of the success the Bulldogs have had, including Chubb and Michel closing in on 1,000 yards each. That would be the first pair of Georgia running backs to accomplish that feat.
It’s quite the turnaround from last year about this time when Chubb and Michel discussed their roles and playcalling with offensive coordinator Jim Chaney. Now Georgia is second in the SEC in rushing offense, thanks in part to a rejuvenated offensive line.
Nick Chubb is OK not being in Heisman Trophy conversation as UGA spreads wealth in run game and is 8-0: “I don’t want it. They can keep it.”
