It’s completely normal for college football coaches to yell and scream at their players, but not all kids respond to that type of teaching. Tennessee freshman linebacker Quavaris Crouch is exhibit A.
Crouch told the media Wednesday that he sometimes ignores his position coach, which sounds really bad without context, especially with where the Volunteers football program is at the moment. But Crouch explained why he sometimes tunes out his coach.
“I take all of his coaching points, but I ignore all of his yelling,” Crouch said “Because for me, they (my coaches) kind of get me overwhelmed a bit. I like to stay focused and calm.”
Crouch told a story of head coach Jeremy Pruitt asking him at practice why he was not hyped or yelling, and the freshman explained that he told Pruitt the same thing he told the media.
“‘Coach that ain’t me,'” Crouch said he told Pruitt. “I like to stay calm and focused on the task that I got at hand. If I get too up, I feel like I’ll forget something.”
One media member then asked Crouch if that mean his first sack celebration will be more subdued. Crouch smiled and admitted that he will be celebrating that moment.
He didn’t reveal his planned celebration but did say he has been practicing it and working on his dance moves.
