Tennessee’s success on recruiting trail boosts Vols into top 10 in 2019 rankings

Jeremy Pruitt hasn’t coached his first game at Tennessee yet, but the Vols’ new coach is already having success in another area — recruiting.
The Vols landed a commit from in-state offensive lineman Melvin McBride on Wednesday, which provided a boost to their 2019 recruiting class. In fact, with the addition of McBride, Tennessee moved up to No. 10 in the 2019 247sports composite class rankings.
The Vols hold a slim advantage over Texas and Florida State for the final top-10 spot in the rankings. They rank sixth in the SEC, as five other conference teams are also in the top 10 — Alabama, Georgia, Texas A&M, LSU and Auburn.
Tennessee has one 5-star commit and seven 4-star commits in the 2019 class. McBride was the 12th 3-star commit that the Vols have landed.
If Pruitt continues to recruit this well, it should certainly bode well for the Vols. Tennessee is coming off a 4-8 season in which it lost all eight of its games against conference opponents, leading to the firing of Butch Jones. Adding top recruits will continue to help the Vols rebuild the program.
While Pruitt continues to seek success on the recruiting trail, he makes his Tennessee coaching debut on Sept. 1, when the Vols open the season against No. 17 West Virginia.
