Texas A&M baseball reportedly has its next head coach. According to Brent Zwerneman of the Houston Chronicle, Michael Earley will be the new head coach of the Aggies.

Earley is technically Texas A&M’s former hitting coach. He served in the role under Jim Schlossnagle for the past three seasons. Earley was recently announced as part of Schlossnagle’s Texas staff, but his time in Austin will be brief, as he’ll be the skipper in College Station.

Earley, 36, played at Indiana from 2008-10. He was drafted by the Chicago White Sox and spent six seasons in the organization (2010-15).

In 2017, Earley got into coaching. He got his start at Arizona State. Earley was on ASU’s staff for five seasons, including four as the team’s hitting coach.

During Earley’s time at ASU, the Sun Devils became an offensive juggernaut, leading the Pac-12 in home runs in 2019 (94). Former Arizona State star Spencer Torkelson credits Earley with helping him become the No. 1 overall pick of the 2020 MLB Draft.

Earley joined Texas A&M under Schlossnagle in 2022. He’s overseen an offensive surge in Aggieland, helping A&M reach the College World Series twice, including this season’s championship series.

In 2023, Texas A&M hit 86 home runs, its most since 1999. The 2024 squad topped that number by 50, smashing 136 homers, a new program record. The 2024 season marked the first time A&M has had a trio in the 20+ homer club: Jace LaViolette (29), Braden Montgomery (27) and Gavin Grahovac (23).

Working with Earley, LaViolette has already reached 50 home runs in just two seasons after clubbing 21 as a freshman.

Much like at Arizona State, Earley had an immediate impact until his arrival at A&M. Aggie hitters improved from slashing .260/.363/.417. in 2021 to .289/.398/.469 in 2022.
