Texas A&M picked up a big team win on Saturday, but an injury will loom large over the Aggies for the remainder of the 2024 campaign.
No. 3 national seed TAMU is now one win away from going to the College World Series, defeating Oregon 10-6 in Game 1 of the Bryan-College Station Super Regional. Unfortunately, the Aggies won’t have Braden Montgomery for the rest of the Super Regional or the College World Series.
Montgomery, a star outfielder who hits for a .322 average with 27 home runs, had to leave Saturday’s game early after being injured on a slide at home plate.
After the game, Texas A&M coach Jim Schlossnagle shared that he thinks Montgomery is done for 2024.

How A&M got it done
Montgomery’s play at the plate was part of a 4-hit, 3-run bottom of the 1st for Texas A&M. Though Montgomery was out, the Aggies took a 3-2 lead thanks to the others who scored during the frame.
Oregon came to play and wasn’t fazed by an early deficit. The Ducks plated 4 in the top of the 2nd inning to go up 6-3.
Texas A&M would get 1 back in the bottom of the 3rd inning, cutting it to 6-4.
The Aggies took the lead with a 3-run bottom of the 4th. Jace LaViolette hit an RBI double to make it 6-5 before later scoring the tying run on a fielding error. A 1-out grounder to second base brought home Kaeden Kent to make it 7-6.

In the bottom of the 5th inning, the Aggies had the bases loaded with nobody out. Three insurance runs would cross the plate on a walk and back-to-back ground outs, making it 10-6.
Chris Cortez kept that lead safe for Texas A&M. No. 10 struck out 10 Ducks, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings in relief after starter Ryan Prager went only 1.2 innings, allowing 6 earned runs on 7 hits.
