Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin relying on senior Armani Watts’ experience

Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin had some positive things to say about senior safety Armani Watts at his press conference on Tuesday.
Against Arkansas Saturday, Watts pulled down a game-sealing interception to preserve the Aggies’ 50-43 win.
When a reporter asked about Watts’ leadership, Sumlin said the following:
“He’s doing a great job as a leader — not just for the defense — but as a team leader,” Sumlin said. “Somebody asked me what you do [as a coach] when things aren’t going well in a game. During that time, you talk to leaders on the team who have been through games like that.
“They understand what’s coming, how much time’s on the clock, that there is a lot of football to play,” Sumlin added. “They have that opportunity to communicate during the game more than you do as a coach because of what is going on on the field. As a coach, you get that done at halftime or in between series.
“He’s been that guy on defense … the guy that can do that. Armani has seen that. He’s doing a great job not only physically as a player, but emotionally, with some stabilization on our defense.”
