Kaleb Oliver, a 3-star safety from Murfreesboro, Tenn., called Mississippi State defensive coordinator Peter Sirmon to inform him that he’s officially committed to the Bulldogs on Wednesday morning, according to Rivals.

Ranked as the No. 44 player at his position and No. 19 in the state, Oliver (6-foot-3, 190 pounds) becomes the 17th member of coach Dan Mullen’s 2017 recruiting class. He picked MSU over Louisville, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt.

“I’m committed to Mississippi State,” Oliver said. “Since the first time I went down there they treated me just like family and I felt like now was the time.

“I liked working with all their coaches, but especially coach (Maurice) Linguist,” Oliver said. “The way he coached really made me comfortable. He described what he wanted you to do with his words then he gets out there and shows you himself. He’s more hands-on so it’s easier to grasp and learn.”

According to his MaxPreps profile, Oliver recorded 99 tackles (12.5 for loss), 3.0 sacks and five interceptions as a junior during the 2015 season.
