Trinidad Chambliss is currently eligible to play college football in 2026. Judge Robert Whitwell ruled in favor of the Ole Miss quarterback, who filed a lawsuit after being denied by the NCAA through its own process. The NCAA can appeal the decision.
Chambliss argued that he should have been granted a medical redshirt for the 2022 season after his conventional redshirt season in 2021 at Ferris State. The NCAA denied the initial request, its appeal and and a subsequent request for further reconsideration, so Chambliss took his case to state court in Mississippi.
Judge Whitwell said Thursday that the NCAA “ignored” evidence from Ferris State regarding Chambliss’ respiratory issues. The judge found Chambliss to be “clearly physically unfit” at the time. He also said the NCAA acted in bad faith.
The judge says that the NCAA "ignored" evidence from Ferris State over Chambliss' illness in 2022 and the court finds that he was "clearly physically unfit" that season to play college football.

The decision has not been read but it is quite clear. https://t.co/Ej96qG4dgL
Chambliss had a breakout 2025 season, his first at Ole Miss. He finished with 3,937 passing yards, the most among SEC quarterbacks. Over 15 games that included a College Football Playoff run, Chambliss completed 66.1% of his passes at 8.8 yards per attempt. He posted a touchdown-to-interception ratio of 22-3.
Returning Chambliss provides Ole Miss a huge boost for 2026, the first full season under head coach Pete Golding.
