Trio of SEC squads top Kirk Herbstreit’s list of best-performing teams from Week 5

The SEC had a good Week 5 according to College GameDay analyst Kirk Herbstreit.
As he does every week, Herbstreit released his list of the top teams in the country from last Saturday this afternoon. The top 3 teams on his 7-man list were Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Kentucky in that order.
If you want to get really pedantic, soon-to-be-SEC-bound Texas took Herbstreit’s 4th spot on the list after their win over then-No. 24 Kansas. The Longhorns were following by West Virginia, Baylor and Bowling Green.

We’d tend to agree: The Rebels’ win over LSU was perhaps the most impressive of the weekend.
It’s one Lane Kiffin’s squad needed badly, too. The win keeps Ole Miss in the race for the SEC West with just 1 conference loss to Alabama as their upcoming schedule eases in difficulty. The Rebels’ offense won a shootout over the Tigers, 55-49.
If Ole Miss did it with offense, Texas A&M did it with their defense. The Aggies saw perhaps DJ Durkin’s best called game of the season on the way to a 34-22 win over Arkansas. The Aggies will need another strong showing against Alabama this coming weekend at Kyle Field.
Kentucky faced its toughest test of the year so far and passed with flying colors in their 33-14 win over Florida. The Wildcats still have plenty to prove, but their 5-0 start is absolutely worthy of a top 25 ranking heading into a brutal October stretch, highlighted by a Week 6 trip to… Georgia.
Let’s see what you’ve got, Wildcats.
