UAB defensive lineman Tylan Jones is currently being held in Blount County Jail after he was arrested on a third-degree domestic violence charge on Wednesday night, according to a report from AL.com’s Carol Robinson.
Jones, who is being held for 24 hours without bond, was accused of “multiple acts of violence” against his ex-girlfriend, per Robinson, which included choking her, hitting her and throwing her to the ground over the past month. Robinson also shared that the police report claims Jones has kicked his ex-girlfriend in the head while wearing boots, smothered her with a pillow, thrown a knife at her leg, threatened to kill her and beat their dogs.
“Of course we take this news extremely seriously. We will look into it and take any appropriate action that may be necessary,” UAB associate athletic director Ted Feeley said in a statement to AL.com.
Jones’ ex-girlfriend has a temporary protection from abuse order against him with a hearing set for later this month, according to Robinson.
Jones is a redshirt junior for the Blazers, who are set to play at Georgia on Saturday. Jones, who previously attended Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, played in 2 games and had 1 tackle in 2020.
