Vanderbilt moved to 6-1 on the season with the 31-24 victory over LSU in Week 8, in large part because of the play of quarterback Diego Pavia. He threw for 160 yards and one touchdown, but it was with his legs where he really impacted the game. He rushed for 86 yards and two touchdowns, and helped to extend drives multiple times.

The Commodores became a fun story last season when they upset Alabama, and they ended up winning a bowl for the first time since 2013. This year though, they’re proving to be a legitimate contender in the SEC, while Pavia is a legitimate contender for the Heisman Trophy.

The school announced a Heisman campaign for Pavia as they seek to get their guy some recogition:

According to the latest Heisman Trophy odds, Pavia is among the top 10 favorites to win the award. He’s +1100, per BetMGM.

Pavia has become one of the faces of college football not only for his playing style, but his relentless determination and a lack of fear of anybody. Before the game against Alabama this season, he wasn’t shy in speaking his mind.

Not only is he willing to talk a big game, he has also shown the ability to deliver a big game. He has thrown for 1,569 yards and 15 touchdowns this year, while adding another 438 yards and four scores on the ground.

In Week 9, ESPN’s College GameDay will be making an appearance in Nashville as the Commodores host Missouri in a huge game for both programs. Both of these teams are 6-1 on the season with their only losses being to Alabama.

A win against Missouri, and that Heisman Trophy résumé is going to have another big time addition to it.
