It looked like Game 1 of the College World Series was going to be a struggle for Vanderbilt.

In the top of the first, Vandy co-ace Jack Leiter gave up a home run to Mississippi State, letting the Bulldogs take a 1-0 lead.

Since the Commodores lost a game 1-0 earlier this tournament, it was worth wondering if the Commodore bats would be up to the task.

Well, wonder no more. Vanderbilt responded with a whopping 7-run bottom of the first, as you can see below:

That 3-run home run was courtesy of Jayson Gonzalez, and it was his ninth of the season. After that big inning, Leiter settled in a bit, retiring the Bulldogs in the top of the second and third innings without allowing more runs.

The score is still 7-1 Vanderbilt entering the bottom of the third in Omaha.
