Video: Maurice Smith’s mother relieved son received waiver from SEC for UGA transfer
After a long, drawn-out process that likely burned a few bridges along the way, the SEC approved a conditional waiver allowing former Alabama defensive back Maurice Smith to join Georgia as a graduate transfer on Friday, making him eligible to play immediately.
“Graduate transfer rules were established with the intent to be grounded in the academic interests of the student-athlete,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey in a statement. “This conditional waiver permits Maurice Smith to receive financial aid to pursue his stated academic goals at the school of his choice while connecting his athletic participation directly to those goals.”
And while Smith himself is probably feeling like a million bucks now that this is all finally behind him, there might not be a happier person involved in the situation than his mother.
