The LSU Tigers were hoping their offense could get on track during its season opener against Wisconsin.

Over the past few years, there have been real concerns in terms of offensive diversity, quarterback consistency, and tangible production from the passing game.

On Saturday against the Badgers, these same issues reared its proverbial ugly head in ugly fashion.

There were multiple instances where LSU appeared primed to garner some momentum and get points on the board. However, the Tigers shot themselves in the foot on numerous occasions.

A potential big play on a screen by Leonard Fournette was foiled by lackluster blocking by the offensive line in space. Dually, first-year starter K.J. Malone had some serious issues in pass protection.

As a unit, LSU ran for 126 yards on 29 carries. It equates to a solid — if not unspectacular –4.3 yards-per-carry average. While LSU held the edge in overall talent, Wisconsin’s quickness and energy-level gave Tiger offensive linemen fits.

When it came to the passing game, starting quarterback Brandon Harris yet again struggled. He finished 12-of-21 for 131 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions.

Here is an example of Harris being unable to connect with starting receiver Malachi Dupre. There were times in which his accuracy was simply not where it needed to be.

Needing only a field goal to win, Harris was flushed from the pocket and forced a very poor pass downfield — which ultimately ended LSU’s hopes at a come-from-behind victory.

Accounting for only seven points on the afternoon, Les Miles and the Tigers desperately need more production from their offensive unit. If this trend of inconsistency continues, it’ll put even more pressure on the defense.
