Vince Marrow talks calling plays in Music City Bowl, how he responds to negative recruiting
By Rolando Rosa
Published:
Vince Marrow, the Wildcats’ recruiting coordinator, will be handling the play-calling duties for Kentucky during its matchup vs. Iowa in the Music City Bowl.
Marrow will take on the responsibility for the season finale and then former Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Liam Coen is expected to begin with Kentucky. Kentucky fired Rich Scangarello after an underwhelming offensive season despite having talented quarterback Will Levis.
However, Marrow is confident in Kentucky’s ability to close out the season on a positive note.
“We will score points,” Marrow said.

Meanwhile, while Marrow answered a question about how he handles negative recruiting, he almost inadvertently revealed a potential hiring.
“In the past, when I recruited, you still recruit on relationships and you recruit on trust. I think parents from the past said that you can trust what Marrow is saying that if I can’t tell you what I told them but eventually it would come to fruition. Just recruiting to this place, this university, and playing in this conference,” Marrow said. “Whatever coordinator we get in, I mean, almost slipped on that. Whatever coordinator we get in though, he’s going to do a good job if it’s somebody who I think it is. He’s going to do a really good job. I’m excited if that’s the person coming in. Can’t say who that is until the appropriate time.”
Kentucky has a 7-5 overall record after it beat in-state rival Louisville 26-13 in the regular season finale. The Music City Bowl is slated for Dec. 31 at noon ET (ABC).
