Kwon Alexander had a short outing in Week 1 for his new team, the San Francisco 49ers. Playing against his former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Alexander was ejected for a dangerous hit on QB Jameis Winston.
Late in the first quarter, as Winston went to slide after a short run, the former LSU standout lowered his helmet directly on to Winston’s helmet, and was quickly flagged for it. It was a third down and 3 play at midfield, and Winston ran for 5 yards before the Alexander hit. The flag also included 15 yards.
Alexander is in his fifth season in the NFL after Tampa Bay picked him in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
At LSU, Alexander was a two-year starter at outside linebacker in 2013 and 2014. He played in 32 games during his career, with 23 starts, and finished with 156 total tackles, with 15 tackles for a loss. In 2014, he led the team with 90 tackles, including 10 against Alabama and 11 against Notre Dame. He started 9 games at linebacker in 2013
