Former South Carolina WR Damiere Byrd appeared in one game for the Carolina Panthers last year, making one catch for 16 yards.

As he fights for a roster spot this season, Byrd is getting plenty of opportunities to make an impact for the Panthers this preseason.

So far, he’s taken full advantage of those opportunities and, in Carolina’s first preseason game of the year against the Houston Texans on Wednesday night, made an impressive 50-yard touchdown grab on a pass from QB Joe Webb:

Through the first 2.5 quarters of Wednesday’s game, Byrd has four catches for 98 yards and two touchdowns.

If he continues putting up numbers like that this summer, it’ll be hard for the Panthers to keep him off the active roster this fall. He spent most of the 2016 season on Carolina’s practice squad, but he could earn a spot on Sundays in 2017.
