Watching Ohio State’s 62-39 beatdown of Michigan was enough to convince Colin Cowherd that the Buckeyes are a cut above the rest of the Big Ten.
In fact, Cowherd thinks they’re closer to being an SEC team than fitting in the conference where they currently reside.
Cowherd explained his reasoning on his radio show Monday, first by splitting college football into Northern and Southern divisions. Then, he detailed what makes Ohio State look like a Southern power, which you can watch for yourself in the video below.
"It really hit me this weekend watching Michigan-Ohio State: Ohio State looks like an SEC team… Speed, athleticism, length, depth of talent. They're the only Northern power that their ideology is Southern." — @ColinCowherd pic.twitter.com/cOZr83IqLU

“Speed, athleticism, length, depth of talent,” Cowherd said of the Buckeyes’ attributes. “They’re the only Northern power that their ideology is Southern — junior college, transfer, pay whatever it takes. They’re a Southern football team that plays up North.”
Cowherd also brought up a stat to closer compare Ohio State to the SEC. Over the past decade, the Buckeyes are 74-12 against the rest of the Big Ten, while SEC teams hold a 25-15 record against such opponents over that same stretch.
Cowherd concluded the segment by saying Ohio State is closer to Alabama than Michigan.
“I’m watching Ohio State-Michigan and it just struck me: Why do I even consider Ohio State a Big Ten team?” Cowherd said. “They’re nothing like the Big Ten.”
