While on Florida campus, top-5 safety cancels planned visit to Georgia

Since decommitting from Oregon on Dec. 11, Avantae Williams has been one of the most sought-after uncommitted prospects remaining in the class of 2020. After the recruiting dead period ended, it looked like Miami, Florida and Georgia were Williams’ final three. The 4-star safety appears to have now trimmed that list to two.

Williams was expected to visit Georgia on the final weekend before Feb. 5’s National Signing Day. While on his official visit at UF, the Deland (Florida) product tweeted that he will no longer be making the trip to Athens.

The 247Sports Composite rates Williams as the No. 2 safety and No. 55 recruit overall in the class of 2020. He collected 27 scholarship offers during his recruitment.

If it’s down to Florida and Miami, the Gators figure to have an advantage. Former 5-star RB Lorenzo Lingard recently transferred from UM to UF. Lingard is Williams’ cousin and appears to have an active role in the Under Armour All-American’s recruitment.
