The 2025 LSU football season quickly turned into a disaster. Not only was Brian Kelly fired, but the Tigers have also been dealing with injuries that have ravaged the entire team.

One of the most significant injuries to have plagued the LSU defense was one suffered by star linebacker and tackling machine Whit Weeks. From Oct. 18 through Nov. 15, Weeks missed 4 games for the Tigers.

On Tuesday, he revealed that he broke his ankle during the Tigers’ 24-19 loss to Ole Miss on Sept. 27, played through the injury against South Carolina on Oct. 11, and then went through rehab.

“I hardly even practiced before that (South Carolina) game, just because I could hardly even walk on it,” Weeks told local reporters this week, per NOLA.com. “But then I just kind of sucked it up for that game. But then I remember on Sunday, I was taking a shower, and I couldn’t even stand in the shower, (so I was like,) ‘I probably need to go get this checked out.’ Sure enough, I got an MRI on it, and sure enough, it was broken.”

In the South Carolina game, Weeks says he broke a different bone in the same ankle that he injured during the Texas Bowl against Baylor at the end of the 2024 season.

Weeks’ injury has been an enormous blow to LSU, not just because he’s one of their better players on defense, but also because he’s one of the team’s prominent leaders. Once he left the lineup, the Tigers gave up 31 points in a loss to Vanderbilt, 49 in a loss to Texas A&M, and 20 in a loss to Alabama.

He says it is not yet fully healed, but he still expects to play on Saturday against No. 8 Oklahoma.

“It cracked right down the middle,” Weeks said, per NOLA.com. “So once it’s healed, it’s healed. But it’s going to take just a couple more weeks, hopefully. I’m trying to turn that corner, but just struggling.”
