One of the big contract moves in the NFL recently was the Buffalo Bills signing former LSU cornerback Tre’Davious White to a four-year extension through the 2025 season.
In his first public comments about the contract, White discussed how he could help his family and “retire his parents.”
“I was able to finally call my parents on three-way and I told them, I was like, ‘I never told you guys this after I got drafted, I can finally say that we did it,'” he told reporters on Monday. “Once I told my dad and my mom that, it was a whole load that as lifted off my shoulders because I knew I could retire my parents, they’ll never have to worry about anything.”
White, 25, has been a starter since being selected with the 27th pick in the 2017 draft out of LSU. He has quickly become one of the up-and-coming cornerbacks in the NFL.
Last year, he had a career-high 6 interceptions, which finished tied for the league lead, and earned his first All-Pro selection. He also became Buffalo’s first player to earn two AFC defensive player of the week honors in one season since defensive end Mario Williams in 2013, the Associated Press reported.
White did not give up a touchdown last season, and was second among NFL defenders in limiting opposing quarterbacks to a 38.9 passer rating. Overall, he has 12 interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 47 starts.
Pure, genuine emotion.
Everything Tre’Davious White does is for his family and that’s exactly how he plans on using the money from his contract extension.
