Less than 24 hours prior to playing one of its biggest games of the season, reports have surfaced that Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Young will leave the program, graduate in the spring and use his final two years of eligibility elsewhere after transferring according to 247Sports.
Young, who is from Louisiana, ends his career at Notre Dame with 17 catches, 177 yards and two touchdowns. As a freshman, he only had two receptions during the regular season, but he doubled that total with two grabs, including a touchdown against LSU in the Citrus Bowl victory. Last year, he also caught a touchdown against Northwestern.
This year, he began the season with broken collarbone and just returned this month. He has six catches for 21 yards in three games.
Because he’s only appeared in three contests, he will be able to redshirt this season and keep his final two seasons of eligibility.
Originally from Destrehan, La, Young was a 3-star prospect in the 2017 recruiting class. It will be interesting to see if he transfers to a school close to home in the SEC.
