Xavier Worthy shares status update ahead of CFP semifinal vs. Washington

Xavier Worthy says he is “good to go” for Monday’s Sugar Bowl matchup with Washington.
The Texas Longhorns are playing in the 2 vs. 3 matchup of the College Football Playoff, and they appear as though they’ll have their leading receiver. Worthy was injured and left the Big 12 championship game against Oklahoma State on Dec. 2 early in the fourth quarter. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian didn’t seem overly concerned about the injury at the time, and the month break between games will have certainly helped.
“Yeah, definitely good to go, just trying to get as close to 100% as possible, but I’m definitely good to go,” Worthy said, per GulfLive.com’s Josh Newman. “I wouldn’t say it’s been frustrating, it’s just a little bump that occurred.”
Worthy produced 73 catches for 969 yards and five touchdowns this season. He was by far Texas’s most targeted receiver, and led the team in yardage. He also entered the postseason with the second-most contested targets among Big 12 receivers.
He was said to have been dealing with a nagging ankle issue leading into the Big 12 title game — where he had six catches for 86 yards. Worthy produced two 100-yard games this season, with his best performance coming in a Nov. 11 win over TCU. He brought in 10 catches for 137 yards that day.
With Washington boasting the best passing attack in college football, Texas will need to put points on the board in bunches. To that end, having Worthy on the field is huge.
