Zach Mettenberger named head football coach at Nashville-area high school
Zach Mettenberger has been named the head football coach at Father Ryan High School in Nashville, Tennessee.
The program announced his hiring on Tuesday afternoon with a press release. Mettenberger was the program’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach during the 2024 season.
“I am confident that Coach Mettenberger will build upon the strong foundation established by the coaches before him, leading our student-athletes to new heights both on and off the field,” athletic director Ann Mullins said in a press release. “His passion for the game, commitment to developing young athletes, and leadership qualities make him the right person to guide our Football program into the future. With his experience and vision, I have no doubt that he will inspire our players, uphold the proud traditions of Father Ryan, and continue fostering a culture of excellence, discipline, and teamwork.”
Mettenberger starred for LSU as the Tigers’ starting quarterback in 2012 and 2013. He threw for over 5,700 yards with the Tigers before becoming an NFL player with the Tennessee Titans. The Titans drafted Mettenberger in the 6th round of the 2014 NFL Draft and he spent 2 seasons with the franchise.
Mettenberger does have some coaching experience beyond his work at Father Ryan in 2024. He previously had a stint with the school back in 2021. He was also the offensive coordinator at Hillsboro High School (Tenn.) from 2020-21.
Following that time with Hillsboro, Mettenberger worked as an analyst under Nick Saban at Alabama from 2022-23.
