There are touchdown catches, and then there is the touchdown catch that LSU wide receiver Zavion Thomas recorded Saturday against No. 17 Vanderbilt.

Thomas broke off his route and came back as a short target on a 2nd-and-10 play for quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, who was under duress from the Vandy pass rush midway through the third quarter.

The rest, well, it was all Thomas.

The 62-yard touchdown reception narrowed 10th-ranked LSU’s margin to 24-21. For Thomas, it was the longest pass reception of his 4-year career at LSU and also his third touchdown catch of 2025.

Thomas, who transferred to LSU in 2024 after 2 seasons at Mississippi State, entered Saturday with 80 career receptions for 909 yards and 5 touchdowns.

LSU has won 10 consecutive games against the Commodores, but the Tigers were underdogs in Las Vegas entering this matchup. Vandy’s last victory in this series came way back in 1990.
