Former USC great and current FOX broadcaster Mark Sanchez was stabbed in Indianapolis early Saturday morning, with the network saying their analyst is in “stable” condition.
“Mark Sanchez was injured in Indianapolis on Saturday and is currently recovering in the hospital in stable condition,” the FOX statement said. “We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”
Sanchez, 38, was in Indianapolis for the broadcast of Sunday’s NFL game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Colts. Sanchez has been teamed with play-by-play announcer Adam Amin and sideline reporter Kristina Pink this season for NFL telecasts.
A Long Beach, Calif., native, Sanchez was a standout performer at USC before moving on to an NFL career that included 2 AFC Championship Game appearances with the New York Jets. Sanchez led the Pac-10 with 34 touchdown passes in 2008, which was his best season in college football.
Sanchez began his media career after retiring from the NFL and has been with FOX since 2021. In addition to calling games for FOX, he also regularly appears on FS1 broadcasts and studio shows.
Sanchez’s stabbing was initially reported by TMZ Sports. He was initially reported to be in critical condition after police received a call to downtown Indianapolis just after 12:30 a.m. on Saturday morning regarding the incident.
