The NFL has decided not to ban the ‘tush push’ play for the 2025 season, according to a report.
The effective QB sneak-style play, popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles in recent years, was on the chopping block this offseason. However, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, a proposal to ban the play did not receive enough votes.
That’s big news for former Oklahoma and Alabama quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Eagles have consistently used this play on 4th-and-short situations and at the goal line in order to move the chains or find the end zone. Even without Jason Kelce at center during the 2024 season, the Eagles still used the play to great effect throughout the regular season and the playoffs.
While rushing touchdown props are not yet widely available for the 2025 season, this will certainly result in an increased projection for Hurts. Last season, Hurts rushed for 14 touchdowns during the regular season and 5 more in the playoffs. Since 2021, his first year as a full-time starter, Hurts has rushed for 62 touchdowns between the regular season and playoffs. Josh Allen is the only other quarterback over that span with more than 22 rushing TDs.
Hurts and the Eagles will face the Dallas Cowboys to open the 2025 regular season on Sept. 4.
