The NFL announced that it has fined Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper $300,000 for tossing a drink into the crowd during his team’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday.
Tepper recently released a statement and apology regarding the incident:
“I am deeply passionate about this team and regret my behavior on Sunday,” Tepper said. “I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the League’s discipline for my behavior.”
The Panthers fell to the Jaguars by a score of 26-0 on Sunday.
This comes amidst a 2-14 season for Carolina after it drafted quarterback Bryce Young with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The Panthers organization has faced backlash amidst C.J. Stroud’s success (the No. 2 pick) in Houston, and the club gave its top 10 pick in the 2024 draft to the Chicago Bears in a deal that sent DJ Moore to the Windy City and gave Carolina the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft.
The Panthers will next take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday. Carolina can still play a large role in who qualifies for the playoffs from the NFC South, as the Falcons and Saints are both rooting for an upset in Tampa.
