Oklahoma is making another change at quarterback.

Michael Hawkins Jr. has been benched after turning the ball over on each of OU’s first 3 possessions vs. the Gamecocks. Hawkins threw 2 interceptions and lost a fumble, which South Carolina seamlessly converted into 21 consecutive points. Two of the turnovers — one interception and one fumble — were returned for scores by the South Carolina defense.

After the third turnover, Brent Venables decided to go back to Jackson Arnold under center. Arnold began the season as the starter, but was benched after he had a flurry of turnovers of his own in the Tennessee game earlier this season.

Arnold received a strong ovation from the Oklahoma faithful upon entering the game:

Hawkins led Oklahoma to a win over Auburn in his first career start earlier this season, but the offense has struggled mightily since then. OU managed just 3 points in a blowout loss to Texas last weekend in Dallas.

Arnold is a former 5-star prospect who entered the year with plenty of hype. Oklahoma will now have to count on him to turn things around after a brutal start at home against the Gamecocks.

This is the first-ever meeting between Oklahoma and South Carolina in football.
