Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss coaching staff are still working to determine who the Rebels’ starting quarterback will be in 2022.

As fall camp continues, Kiffin doesn’t sound impressed with either Jaxson Dart or Luke Altmyer, especially after Saturday’s scrimmage.

Kiffin said both of the top guys took too many “sacks” during the non-contact scrimmage and didn’t play very well overall (via On3 Sports):

“I thought the first two guys [Dart and Altmyer] didn’t play great and took too many sacks — even though we’re not hitting them, that would’ve been sacks,” Kiffin told reporters.

He did, however, seem to be impressed with Kinkade Dent in the scrimmage:

“We play a little game in the quarterback room predicting the MVPs for the day and guess them,” Kiffin said. “I would like to go on record that I picked Kinkade to be MVP today. That may have had something to do with the play-calling down there to get him some extra touchdown passes to win that bet. But he did a good job. Made a lot of plays.”

The Rebels still have a couple of weeks for one of the quarterbacks to take command of the QB1 job. Ole Miss is slated to open the 2022 season on Saturday, Sept. 3, against Troy.
