Lane Kiffin on Monday talked about what he’s expecting from Mississippi State playing under an interim coach this Thursday. Kiffin has often used the term “house money” this season for Ole Miss playing against the likes of Georgia.

Kiffin was asked if he thinks that Mississippi State could be playing with house money under interim coach head coach Greg Knox.

“I think that there is some danger in that. Kind of an all-out factor or we don’t know if this guy is our head coach for another game or maybe if he’s gonna be the permanent head coach,” Kiffin said. “I think sometimes that doesn’t work, and sometimes it works well cause kids kinda just let it go. Usually a coach in these situations just brings energy and be creative and try to be more motivation than Xs and Os cause it’s hard to really change philosophies or Xs and Os in 1 or 2 weeks. A lot of times they usually try to go the motivation route with the players.”

Ole Miss comes into this season’s Egg Bowl matchup with a 9-2 record and a 5-2 record in SEC play. Mississippi State currently sits at 5-6 on the season, and a 1-6 record in SEC play.

The Rebels can lock up their second 10+ win season under Kiffin with a win this Thursday. The Bulldogs have a lot on the line as well as they sit just 1 win away from being bowl eligible for the 14th season in a row.

The 2 teams have split the last 8 games in this series at 4-4 with Mississippi State having won the last meeting in 2022 by a score of 24-22 over the Rebels.

Ole Miss heads on the road to take on Mississippi State this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
