It has been a tumultuous offseason for the Ole Miss Rebels, to say the least.

From the surprise scandal and subsequent resignation of coach Hugh Freeze to the lawsuit from former coach Houston Nutt, there have been plenty of negative headlines off the field in Oxford.

Now that the 2017 season is only a month away, though, interim coach Matt Luke wants to make sure the focus is put back on the Rebels’ players, telling ESPN’s Paul Finebaum that it’s time for his players to show what they can do on the field.

“I think they have a comfort level with me,” he says in the interview. “I just really want to make sure I put the focus back on them. They’ve been through so much adversity and I think they just want to go out and play football.”

The Rebels open the season on Saturday, Sept. 2, against South Alabama. Ole Miss fans and players alike will be happy to put this offseason behind them and get back on the field.
