Ole Miss’ star-studded transfer class has taken another hit thanks to Louisville. This time, the Cardinals have swiped a defensive back who had previously pledged to Lane Kiffin’s program.

Illinois transfer Taz Nicholson announced his commitment to Ole Miss on Dec. 9. Wednesday, he took to social media to reveal that he will be continuing his career in the ACC playing for Jeff Brohm. Nicholson’s flip comes a day after former Tennessee edge Tyler Baron announced he was flipping his transfer commitment from Ole Miss to Louisville.

Ole Miss and Louisville both have top-5 transfer classes, according to 247Sports. The Rebels are down to 13 transfer pledges and have dipped to No. 2 in the portal class rankings after the recent decommitments from Baron and Nicholson. Louisville has the No. 4 transfer class, with 26 pledges.

The Rebels and Cardinals are both programs looking to improve on strong showings in 2023 with the College Football Playoff field expanding to 12 for the 2024 season.

Louisville cracked the top 10 of the AP Top 25, reaching No. 9 before a rough finish. The Cardinals finished the season on a 3-game losing skid, falling to Kentucky, Florida State and USC for a 10-4 record on the year with an ACC Championship Game appearance and Holiday Bowl berth.

Nicholson was sought-after in the portal as a multi-season starter. He recorded 36 tackles, 2.0 TFLs, 6 pass breakups, 1 fumble recovery, and 2 forced fumbles on the 2023 season.
