As always, a number of recognizable former SEC players went undrafted when the NFL concluded its seven-round event Saturday.

But a late-round frenzy saw players like Jalen Mills, Vadal Alexander, Alex McCalister and Keith Marshall flew off the board in the final picks, softening the headliners within the SEC’s “undrafted” list.

The most recognizable name not to be selected may be Alabama quarterback Jake Coker.

After losing a tight competition to eventual No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston at Florida State, Coker transferred to the Tide, hoping to replace AJ McCarron. Instead he watched Blake Sims lead the team to the College Football Playoff before finally seizing control of the position in the second half of the Ole Miss game in ’15.

Coker threw for 3,110 yards and 21 touchdowns as Bama won another national championship. But he didn’t get invited to the NFL Combine and wasn’t among the 15 quarterbacks selected in this year’s draft.

According to ESPN’s draft tracker, Ole Miss defensive back Trae Elston was one of the six best players left on the board when the draft ended. NFL.com rated Auburn offensive tackle Avery Young as the second-best player who will need to sign as an undrafted free agent.

Mississippi State receiver De’Runnya Wilson, who caught 10 touchdown passes in 2015 and stands 6-foot-5 and 224 pounds, also did not get drafted. He ran a 4.85 40-yard dash and put forth a 28-inch vertical at the NFL Combine, highly disappointing numbers that contributed to him not being selected.

Other names that we figured had a solid chance of being drafted but were left without a phone call Saturday include a trio of Auburn players (CB Jonathan Jones, RB Peyton Barber, WR Duke Williams), Florida tight end Jake McGee, Arkansas guard Denver Kirkland and Kentucky defensive lineman Cory Johnson.

After producing at least one draft pick for 51 consecutive years, Tennessee now has failed to do so in ’15 and ’16. Receiver Marquez North, safety Brian Randolph, offensive lineman Kyler Kerbyson and pass rusher Curt Maggitt are among Vols players who are hoping to catch on with an NFL roster.

Here is a position-by-position breakdown of the SEC players who were not drafted, along with their pre-draft positional rank within the SEC. (For example, we rated Jake Coker as the third-best SEC quarterback entering the NFL draft. Dak Prescott and Brandon Allen both got selected, so he’s got a “3.” in front of his name.)
