Boo Corrigan broke down how much of an impact the coaches on the College Football Playoff selection committee impact the process following the selection show on Sunday.

This year’s CFP reveal sparked a great deal of controversy, most notably from Florida State being left out despite its perfect record.

The CFP committee is made up of several different people with different roles in the college football world, and the roster includes a handful of coaches. Corrigan said that those coaches are asked things like who they would and would not want to play.

“It’s one of the questions we do ask. From a coaching standpoint, who do you want to play, who do you not want to play,” Corrigan said. “As we go through that, looking at where we are today, not where we were three weeks ago or eight weeks ago, who do they want to play, who do they not want to play. They’ve got a significant voice in the room. As we went through that, and we went around and around late last night, came back again this morning to do it again. Again, we came back with the top 4 as we did and Florida State at 5.”

This year’s Playoff will feature Michigan, Washington, Texas and Alabama. No matter what decision the committee made, it was likely going to spark some controversy, and leaving Florida State out certainly did that.

Regardless, the Playoff should be an interesting one, with Michigan taking on Alabama and Washington taking on Texas.
