As awesome as this college football Saturday was, it was also so tragic.

Louisiana-Monroe quarterback Daniel Fitzwater died, according to the university. In a press release, ULM announced that Fitzwater passed away abruptly early Saturday morning.

No cause of death for the 20 year-old is known at this time.

“The coaching staff and team are deeply saddened by the loss of a great person in Daniel,” said ULM head coach Todd Berry in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Daniel’s family.”

“The ULM family is saddened to learn of Daniel’s death,” Dr. Nick J. Bruno, ULM president, said. “Our deepest sympathies and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time.”

Fitzwater was a kinesiology major and a walk-on quarterback for the Warhawks. Fitzwater’s survived by his mother and father, Kelli and Mike Fitzwater, two brothers and one sister.

Our condolences are with his family during this tragic time.
