Ejected Texas HS football player runs back on field, slams ref with vicious hit; escorted out by police
A Texas high school football game turned ugly Thursday night.
Multiple videos from a YouTube stream show an ejected Edinburg HS player, Emmanuel Duron, running back onto the field from the sidelines to slam an official.
A brief video shows the ejection and then Duron running back onto the field to slam the ref:

Reporter Andrew McCulloch shares that Duron was escorted out of the stadium by local police but not handcuffed:

Edinburg PD officers who escorted Duron from the stadium: “No comment, we’re not at liberty to talk about that.”
Duron was not handcuffed when he was led out #RGVFootball #txhsfb

The referee was evaluated for a possible concussion:
I’m told the referee is being evaluated for a concussion
Game will go on with a replacement ref potentially on the way
Otherwise they’ll play on with one less official
I’m told Duron has left the premises and won’t return tonight #RGVFootball #txhsfb

Not even close to targeting!
I believe he was ejected for consecutive roughing the passer penalties.
I was referring to the hit on the ref lol.
Aw that is funny. I got it.
Funny thing is.. back in the good ol’ days of The Southwest Conference circa 1973 he would have been highly touted.
+3
His team punished too, no playoff berth.
Why is my comment awaiting moderation??????

That kid’s got a bright future ahead of him
At Auburn likely.
After a year at juco
This says —Future FSU recruit.
Then he’ll get released by FSU. Go to Hutchinson CC and be primed and ready for the Auburn Tigers
Nice
+1
I hope the kid is ruled ineligible for all remaining games.
He will be. And probably charged with assault and battery to boot.
Pert certain he was and then some.
…This is Texas and not Massachusetts.
Good thing this hasn’t happened in the SEC… Marc Curles’s career would have been over years ago.
Totally unacceptable behavior, he shouldn’t play another down this year. Unfortunately it may also cause repercussions for his coaches and team…very selfish act.
?This year?, that’s a joke right? As if he could get back on a high school football team with that on his record? I sure hope that high school doesn’t exist anywhere.
Jesus friggin’ Kryst, Tennessee!…
I thought y’all were our forebears who shaved Mexico out from this part of my continent!
What is it with high school players assaulting refs in Texas? Wasn’t there an incident last year too?
Maybe it the same kid, and he changed his identity, enrolled in another high school. This isn’t funny but I’m just saying, this is how hard it should be to
see that act repeated anywhere!
Bringin da hood to the field. Its all good..Baylor is already taking a look at him.
After Auburn, Ole Miss or Texas recruits him:
Good speed, plays with passion. Just one mistake he’s really a good kid. Shows his desire to win, plays with raw emotion…blah blah blah.
Another future Texas prison inmate I guess.
Such a shame.
IMO, harsh consequences is the only way to prevent this from continuing. It will have enormous benefits for this particular player, and serve as a warning to others; even if you think it’s unfair, the call is the call. Head to the locker room, regroup, and stay eligible for when your suspension is up. There’s no reason to add off-the-field charges to an on-the-field penalty.
No reason to add off-the-field charges to an on-the-field penalty?
You’re still– after all these years– feeling privilege guilt, aren’t you? Are you like a sociology professor or something similar?
Your argument is akin to saying that since NASCAR drivers driving on private property are exempt from speeding tickets then if one decides to run over an opponent’s pit crew he should merely need pay a fine and do NASCAR probation time.
Sorry, running onto the field and bull rushing an official is not a on-the-field penalty. It’s aggravated assault pure and simple and he will be charged.
Now even the term high school athlete is beginning to look a little shady. I bet there are a lot of kids that are failing in HS but go to college for…an education…sure.
Send him to jail for 30 days & let’s see how it likes it there.
So, I know this isn’t really the point, but did that kid actually “body slam” the ref? Seems to me like he pushed him or tackled him.
I would have thought a forfeit would be the thing to do so the team realizes…its a t.e.a.m. situation. Why wait for a replacement..just call it a forfeit.
Out PC culture being taught to disrespect authority at all levels.
Yup! Hopefully the ref is good. Kid needs to take a year off. Or more. Can probably find his next start on Burt Reynolds team
Ha! Great reference to a great movie! Kudos.
Wish someone would do that to a couple of these SEC refs
Yes…. but also no.
Lol
