Alabama’s 38-0 pasting of Michigan State in the Cotton Bowl was a disappointing sight for a few former Buckeyes.

Ohio State failed to take care of business against its Big Ten rival on Nov. 21, falling by way of a 41-yard field goal as time expired to give the Spartans the 17-14 victory.

That all but guaranteed that Ohio State wouldn’t get a shot at defending its national championship from a season ago, which included a 42-35 win over Alabama in the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Speaking with AL.com’s Michael Casagrande at the Senior Bowl, former Buckeye tight end Nick Vannett said, “It kind of made us look bad.”

Meanwhile, defensive back Tyvis Powell regrets not being in a position to represent the Big Ten better.

“I think we would have definitely done a better job,” Powell told Casagrande. “I was shocked they didn’t score a point. It is what it is. It was very disappointing. But, Alabama, it was their year. I guess everybody has their year and it was their time to win.”

Ohio State rebounded in impressive fashion following the loss to Michigan State, dismantling rival Michigan 42-13 in the Big House before handling Notre Dame 44-28 in the Fiesta Bowl.

Alabama went on to defeat Clemson 45-40 in the national championship game.
